Meeting of Working Group for Amendments to Personal Data Protection Law

Commissioner Milan Marinović, Deputy Commissioner Sanja Unković, and Acting Assistant Secretary General Dragana Stojković participated in the work of the Special Working Group for the preparation of the text of amendments to the Personal Data Protection Law, at a meeting held from 8 to 10 April 2025 in Divčibare. Special attention is paid to the legal regulation of the processing of genetic and biometric data, the processing of personal data through audio and video surveillance, and the processing of personal data using artificial intelligence.

Training Session: Free Access to Information of Public Importance, Legislation and Practice (Belgrade)

In the Belgrade Misdemeanor Court Great hall, on Monday, April 7, starting at 10:30 a.m., a training session called “Free Access to Information of Public Importance, Legislation and Practice” was held for more than 100 Information Officers from various public authorities.

The training was held by Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection Milan Marinović, Rosana Lemut – Strle lecturer from Slovenia, and Assistant Secretary General – Sector for Complaints and Enforcement in the Field of Access to Information of Public Importance Slavoljupka Pavlović. This training was conducted with the support of the multi-donor project “Support for Strengthening Rule of Law in the Republic of Serbia” (EU FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION AND FOR FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS) financed by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC), whereas the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) is in charge for its implementation.

The training aims to familiarize Information Officers with the current legal solutions (in the EU and the Republic of Serbia) and to train them for the proper application of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance.

Field trainings, which are implemented as part of project support in four selected local self-government units, are particularly important for raising the capacity of the application of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance and also aim to raise awareness among the general public and inform citizens in this area.

Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner at International Congress of Lawyers

Commissioner Milan Marinović and Deputy Commissioner Sanja Unković will attend the International Congress of Lawyers, organized by the KEC Group, in Bled, Republic of Slovenia, from 25 to 29 March 2025.

They took an active role in the Panel dedicated to the relation between personal data protection and artificial intelligence in the countries of the region, which was also attended by the Heads of the Information Commissioner of the Republic of Slovenia, the Personal Data Protection Agency of the Republic of Croatia and the Personal Data Protection Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In addition to the formal part of the Congress, consisting of panels and lectures, several workshops and expert meetings were organized, not only between representatives of bodies engaged in personal data protection and but also between representatives of government bodies, companies and other legal entities, and legal advocacy, all on the topic of personal data protection through the lens of the age of modern technologies, increasing digitalization, and the comprehensive and increasingly widespread application of artificial intelligence.

Personal Data Protection – Legislation and Practice (Pirot)

In the Pirot City Assembly Great Hall, on Thursday, March 20, starting at 11:00 a.m., the representatives of the Commissioner’s Office held a training course on the implementation of the Personal Data Protection Law for Data Protection Officers from more than 35 public institutions in the vicinity of the city of Pirot.

The representatives of the Office of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection conducted this training within the scope of the multi-donor project “Support for Strengthening Rule of Law in the Republic of Serbia”(EU for the Fight Against Corruption and for Fundamental Rights) financed by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), whereas the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) is in charge for its implementation.

The importance of personal data protection, consent for their processing, the purpose of lawful and fairly processing and transfer, along with determining the public and legitimate interest in data processing, are just some of the topics in the main focus of public interest. The training aims to familiarize Data Protection Officers or persons designated by Data Controllers and Data Processors (if they do not have designated Data Protection Officers) with the current legal solutions (in the EU and the Republic of Serbia) and train them for proper application of the Personal Data Protection Law.

Field trainings, which are being implemented as part of project support in 15 selected local self-government units, are particularly important for raising the capacity of personal data protection. Also, at the same time, in addition to trainings in those selected units of local self-government, panel discussions on personal data protection are being organized, primarily aiming to raise awareness among the general public and inform its citizens.
